Dysport
Dynamic wrinkles are the wrinkles of expression created by facial movements such as smiling, frowning, anger, worry, pain and squinting that are repeated over years and create deep creases in the skin. Dynamic wrinkles can create the appearance of dissatisfaction, anger, or exhaustion and make us appear older than we really are. Dysport treatments can temporarily smooth dynamic wrinkles and rejuvenate your appearance.
Dysport is an injectable wrinkle relaxer (a neurotoxin), a well-established aesthetic treatment for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. Like Botox, Dysport works by temporarily blocking nerve signals in the muscles where they are injected, leading to a reduction in muscle activity. When the muscles are temporarily paralyzed it smooths out the wrinkles. A new study reports that in addition to treating dynamic wrinkles, neurotoxin treatments can improve skin quality. (1)
Unlike Botox, patients may see results in 2-3 days while Botox can take 4-7 days to see effects.
The duration of the effect for both Dysport and Botox is generally similar, ranging from 3 to 4 months, though this can vary based on individual factors. It can take seven to ten days to see the full effects. So, if you have a big event, we recommend that you have your treatment at least two weeks before the event to receive the full benefits of your treatment. Importantly, to maintain the results, it is beneficial to schedule regular maintenance treatments.
Dysport offers a range of applications focused on improving appearance by addressing facial lines and wrinkles. The key cosmetic applications of Dysport include:
- Treatment of Glabellar Lines (Frown Lines): The primary and most common use of Dysport in cosmetics is the reduction of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. These lines, also known as glabellar lines, are often more noticeable when frowning or squinting and can become permanent over time. Dysport helps in softening these lines, leading to a smoother forehead appearance.
- Forehead Wrinkles: Apart from the glabellar lines, Dysport can be used to reduce horizontal forehead lines. By relaxing the frontalis muscle, which is responsible for raising the eyebrows, Dysport diminishes the appearance of horizontal forehead wrinkles.
- Crow’s Feet: These are the lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes and are particularly visible when smiling or laughing. Dysport can be injected around the outer eye area to relax the orbicularis oculi muscle, thereby reducing the appearance of crow’s feet.
- Brow Lift Effect: Dysport can be strategically injected to create a subtle lifting effect on the eyebrows. This non-surgical brow lift can help in opening up the eye area, giving a more youthful and rested appearance.
- Lip Flip: This is a technique where Dysport is used to provide a temporary lift to the upper lip, making it appear slightly plumper and more visible.
- Perioral Lines (Lipstick Lines): Fine lines around the mouth, often exacerbated by smoking or frequent pursing of the lips, can be softened using Dysport.
- Diminishing Neck Bands: Dysport can be used to treat prominent vertical bands in the neck, known as platysmal bands, resulting in a smoother neck profile.
- Gummy Smile Reduction: For individuals whose upper lip elevates excessively when smiling, revealing a large portion of their gums, Dysport can be used to reduce the elevation of the lip.
- Downturned Mouth: Dysport can help lift the corners of the mouth by relaxing muscles that pull the mouth downward.
- Jawline Slimming: For patients with overactive masseter muscles (the muscles responsible for chewing), Dysport can be injected into these muscles to provide a slimming effect to the jawline.
- Chin Dimpling: Botox or Dysport can be used to smooth out the appearance of an “orange peel” or dimpled chin.
