BOTOX® is the brand name for a purified form of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Originally approved by the FDA in the late 1980s to treat medical conditions like uncontrolled blinking (blepharospasm) and a lazy eye (strabismus), it was soon discovered to have powerful cosmetic benefits. For decades, dermatologists have used BOTOX® to safely and effectively soften wrinkles and facial lines. Today, it is FDA-approved for treating frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead lines, and even excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis).
How BOTOX® Works

Results typically appear within one to two weeks after injection and continue to improve for up to a month.
