Dysport is an injectable treatment that targets dynamic wrinkles the lines created by repeated facial movements such as smiling, frowning, squinting, or expressing worry and anger. How Dysport Works
Dysport is an injectable wrinkle relaxer, a neurotoxin, and a well-established treatment for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. Like BOTOX®, Dysport works by temporarily blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected, reducing muscle activity. When the muscles are temporarily relaxed, the overlying skin smooths out, softening the appearance of wrinkles. In addition to treating dynamic wrinkles, studies show that neurotoxin treatments may also improve overall skin quality.
Unlike BOTOX®, results from Dysport may appear in just 2-3 days, while BOTOX® can take 4-7 days to become visible. The duration of effect for both Dysport and BOTOX® generally ranges from three to four months, although this can vary depending on individual factors. Full effects may take seven to ten days to appear, so if you have a special event, it is recommended to schedule treatment at least two weeks in advance. Regular maintenance treatments are also beneficial to maintain lasting results.
Cosmetic Applications for Dysport
Dysport can improve many areas of the face and neck by addressing a variety of wrinkles and lines. It is most commonly used to treat glabellar lines, or frown lines, between the eyebrows, softening these lines for a smoother forehead appearance. Dysport also reduces horizontal forehead wrinkles by relaxing the frontalis muscle and diminished crow’s feet around the eyes by relaxing the orbicularis oculi muscle. It can create a subtle brow lift, opening up the eye area for a more youthful and rested look, and provide a temporary “lip flip” to lift the upper lip and make it appear fuller. Fine perioral lines, sometimes called lipstick lines, can be softening, while Dysport also helps reduce a gummy smile, lift downturned mouth corners, smooth chin dimpling, and diminish prominent vertical neck bands. For patients with overactive masseter muscles, Dysport injections can slim and contour the jawline.
